SCHOOL TRAVEL PLAN

It is the vision of Staindrop CE Primary School that every child should be able to travel to school in a healthy, sustainable and safe way.

Following on from the success of our Walk to School Month in October 2008 we introduced a formal 5 Minute Walking Zone. In January 2009 the Council  placed notices on the lamp posts that border the zone.

Coming from Barnard Castle this will mean parking around the Greens and walking along the Black Path on the east side passing the Almshouses and Grice Farm entering Swan Wynd from the South Green Entrance. Please note that the Black Path has been widened and re surfaced as part of the School's Travel Plan.

Coming from Winston parking along Winston Road outside of the zone and walk along the path to the lane and enter the school from the side entrance would be preferred.

Please do not park on or near the junction of Black Swan Wynd, School Bus Stop or Service Bus Stop. Please note that the path beside the Black Swan Pub is not legally wide enough to be used as a safe route to school. No parking is permitted on the Black Swan Public House Private Car Park, the Landlord has issued notice that cars parked on their private car park will be clamped and a charge levied. Also, do not park on the Broumley Court parking area, it is important that access is available at all times in case of emergencies.

Many older children travel independently and we are applying for permission to erect a Walking Stop near to the Patrolled Crossing for them to wait for their friends and continue onto school together.

If you think that your child may be entitled to Free Educational Transport please contact the School as soon as possible.

The benefits of the plan far outweigh the negatives. It may mean setting out from home slightly earlier. It may mean purchasing a waterproof coat or leaving a change of footwear in school.  Travelling to school by car has nearly doubled since 1985.  Children are getting less exercise and congestion outside schools is a serious problem. Please can you help us in our efforts to resolve this
