PESSPA (Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity)

Intent

At Staindrop C E Primary School, we believe passionately in the value of high quality physical education, opportunities for physical activity and participation in school sport (PESSPA). Each has an enormous impact on health and emotional well-being as well as significantly impacting on whole school improvement.

We want to provide opportunities for our pupils to become confident and physically literate in a way which supports their well-being. In addition to this, we aim to provide opportunities for children to compete in sport and other activities in order to build resilience and embed values such as team work, fairness and respect.

Implementation

Our PESSPA achieves this by:

  • Improving health and well-being
  • Increasing physical activity in accordance to the Chief Medical Officer Recommendations (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/832868/uk-chief-medical-officers-physical-activity-guidelines.pdf )
  • Providing high quality opportunities and outcomes for all
  • Encouraging community involvement and club links
  • Promoting active participation and competition
  • Raising achievement and supporting excellence
